Border Collies are famously Smart, Energetic, active and deeply bonded  working dogs. Originally bred for demanding herding work, they thrive when given both mental challenges and physical outlets. These alert, sharp companions form intense connections with their families and should never live as outdoor-only pets. While their exceptional intelligence makes training rewarding, it also means they require consistent engagement. Properly raised, Border Collies become wonderful family members who need space to run and a job to do—they’re not suited for sedentary or apartment living without dedicated activity.

Appearance & Grooming  

Border Collies boast a practical double coat that comes in two types: a moderate-length rough coat or a short smooth coat—both weather-resistant and designed for an active lifestyle. You’ll find them in a variety of stunning colors and patterns (except solid white), with classic black and white among the most recognized.

Grooming Essentials:

• Weekly brushing keeps coats healthy and mat-free

• Seasonal shedding occurs in spring and fall—daily brushing helps manage loose hair

• Bathe only as needed (typically 3–4 times yearly)

• Never shave a Border Collie’s double coat—it protects them from both heat and cold

• Complete care includes regular ear cleaning, teeth brushing, and nail trimming

While not hypoallergenic, their manageable grooming needs make them practical for active households who don’t mind some seasonal fur.
